"It's My Life! (Or is it?)"
By George Blanchard
We all know that at some time or another we argue with our parents. It's almost inevitable. There's a power struggle (war) going on in probably all of our homes. And if it hasn't happened to you . . .Wait, it's coming! Our parents have in their minds, to some extent, what they would like to see us do with our futures, our lives. (In reality, they'd probably all wish us in diapers again and not yet talking. :o)
What your life comes down to is what you believe about Jesus, the Bible, your own convictions, and most importantly salvation. Let me ask you this, do your convictions match up with the Bible? They should, and if they don't, begin prayerfully changing them to fit God's plan for you. Now, when I talk about convictions, I'm not talking about your parent's or preacher's or even your friend's reasoning about the Scriptures.
God reveals different things to different people at different times for different reasons all according to His purpose. A church or denomination is not the way! Duh! It's a heart condition, not a church condition. What you believe will affect you, your children, and what kind of Christian you are in the end. It's important!
Our lives (which technically are not even ours, but God's) all have a purpose. You may not know what that is, but you will find out when God feels it is time for you to. You may feel that God is leading you to a different church than the one you have been raised in, if so, pray and see if it is truly God leading.
All in all, just give your life to the Lord, and he will go before you every step of the way. You also may feel God's leading in areas such as college, dating, and maybe even a career choice that your parents do not agree with. Instead of saying, "It's my life, let me live it!" Say, "I'm going to live my life for God, not for myself or anybody else. If God is leading me in this direction I will follow Him every step of the way." If your parents are Christians and fear the Lord, they will, at worst, respect your stand and sincerity.
It is important to remember that jumping into anything without first going to God in prayer, and consulting His Word is just plain na've.
Just pray for God's will and not your own; I am and it's making a difference! Don't worry, rejoice!
Rejoice in the life that is your Lord's and live it for Him!
