"Your Tongue and Your Life"
By Jeremy Kaneer
You may dismiss the tongue as another part of the body, important, but not so powerful. Known for allowing us to speak and taste the tongue is truly an amazing creation. In a society pushing the "say what you think", and "express yourself" mentalities it's easy to overlook the true power and potential of what we say and its impact on our lives.
You may be asking yourself, "Does what I say really matter?" Scripture is replete with references describing the power of our words. Proverbs 18:21 says, "Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof." In fact, millions of unsaved people have confessed with their tongue that Jesus Christ is their Lord and Savior. If the tongue is a tool used to accept Jesus Christ it must hold an enormous potential as nothing is more powerful than an eternity with Christ. Next time you "express yourself" by saying something that is untrue or tears down rather than builds up, reconsider. My pastor once said, "You will never rise above the level of your confession." You have two choices. If you want to fail your math test tomorrow, proclaim it. If you want to die of sickness, say it. If you want to come into the will of God speak his word. His word is his will.
The best way to flood yourself with the Word of God is to constantly surround yourself with it through Christian music or simply reading the Word. You have the choice to turn on secular radio and sing about the failure, heartache, and immorality of the world or you can sing and declare the power of the Almighty over your life and your circumstances. Proverbs 8:7 proclaims, "My mouth speaks what is true, for my lips detest wickedness." Truth may not be in fashion these days, but our tongue brings hope for change.
